Chimpanzee trekking in Tanzania is unlike any other wildlife encounter. Chimps share 98.7% of their DNA with humans — and when you sit in the forest watching them groom, play, and communicate, that biological proximity becomes profoundly tangible.

Tanzania's two chimp trekking destinations are both world-class: Mahale Mountains on Lake Tanganyika offers the most exclusive encounter (tiny camp, spectacular scenery), while Gombe Stream carries the unique legacy of Jane Goodall's six-decade research programme.

Treks begin early in the morning with park rangers and trackers. The distance to locate the chimps varies daily — 30 minutes to 4 hours — then you spend exactly 1 hour in their company before quietly withdrawing.
