Your 4-Day Journey
Morning pickup from your Arusha hotel. Drive 130 km south to Tarangire National Park — Tanzania's best-kept secret. Enter through the park gate and immediately encounter the baobab-studded savannah that defines this magical landscape.
Tarangire hosts Tanzania's highest concentration of elephants outside the Serengeti ecosystem. Watch enormous herds numbering in the hundreds congregate along the Tarangire River. Lions, leopards, wild dogs and tree-climbing pythons are also regularly spotted. Overnight at Suricata Boma Lodge — a comfortable mid-range property on the park boundary.
After an early morning game drive in Tarangire, drive north through the Ngorongoro highlands into the world-famous Serengeti. The journey itself is spectacular — Maasai villages, vast crater views and changing habitats make every kilometre memorable.
Enter Serengeti from the south and begin afternoon game drives across the endless plains. Cheetahs scan the horizon from termite mounds, lions rest in the shade of acacia trees, and enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra carpet the landscape. Settle in at Tanzania Bush Camps for dinner and a night among the sounds of Africa.
Rise early for a dawn game drive through Serengeti — predators are most active in the cool morning hours. Big cats begin to stir; leopards descend from acacia trees; cheetahs pursue impala across the golden plains.
Drive 135 km east to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you climb the crater walls, the landscape shifts from open savannah to montane forest draped in mist. Ngorongoro Kuhama Camp sits on the crater rim with extraordinary views into the caldera — dine and sleep to the sounds of the highland forest at night.
Wake before sunrise for spectacular crater rim views as golden light fills the caldera. After breakfast, descend 600+ metres into the Ngorongoro Crater — the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Inside the crater: all Big Five in a concentrated 260 sq km arena. Black rhino, found in critically low numbers globally, is most reliably spotted here. Watch pride of lions, spotted hyena clans, vast elephant herds and flamingo-fringed Lake Magadi. A hot picnic lunch is served crater-side before you ascend and drive back to Arusha, arriving late afternoon.
