Where the Bush Meets the Beach

Saadani National Park holds a genuinely unique distinction: it is the only protected area in Africa where you can do a morning game drive watching elephants and lions, then spend the afternoon swimming in the Indian Ocean on a deserted beach. This combination of bush and beach in one park is found nowhere else on the continent.

The park's centrepiece is the Wami River — a slow, hippo-filled waterway that empties into the Indian Ocean. Boat safaris on the Wami offer close-up encounters with hippos, crocodiles, and a spectacular array of coastal and riparian birds.

From December to April, the beaches become nesting sites for green sea turtles — a magical and endangered event that guests can witness with their guides during nighttime patrols.
