Mikumi National Park
Tanzania's most accessible southern safari park — open floodplains, year-round wildlife, and the classic African savanna experience just a few hours from Dar es Salaam.
Southern Tanzania's Accessible Gem
Mikumi National Park is the most visited park in southern Tanzania — and with good reason. Its open floodplains (the Mkata Floodplain) provide outstanding game viewing that rivals the northern parks, while its accessibility makes it perfect for shorter trips or overland itineraries combining Dar es Salaam with a bush experience.
The park sits at the foot of the Uluguru Mountains, and its diverse habitats — savanna, woodland, and the seasonal wetland of the Mkata Plain — support impressive wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and hippo.
Mikumi is also one of the few parks where you can observe large herds of wildebeest and zebra in the south of Tanzania. The adjacent Selous/Nyerere ecosystem makes it a natural extension of a longer southern circuit.
